Northern Log Homes

These are a few of the questions that seem to be asked most frequently:

Q. How much is delivery?
A. Approximately $1.75 per loaded mile in the continental U.S.

Q. Do we need to chink our home?
A. With our logs, chinking is not necessary. We do recommend caulking the corners and butt joints.

Q. What is the "Swedish Cope" method of log construction?
A. "Swedish Cope" refers to the way the logs fit one to another. Our logs have a concave cope approximately 4 inches wide that fits the round log below making a much tighter seal. A foam weather-strip is provided to place in the cope for extra insulation value and to minimize any air filtration.

Q. What type of foundation is needed?
A. We recommend a conventional foundation with an 8-inch stem wall and standard footings.

Q. Is it possible to have a basement?
A. Yes, either a full basement or a daylight basement is an economical way to add extra square footage to your home.

Q. Can we build our home ourselves or do we need a contractor?
A. Many of our customers choose to build their homes. If you have a the time and a good understanding of construction, it would save on costs. We do have contractors available who start from a "shell only" and make the structure into a "turnkey" home.
